SeasonPreview: Your guide to the arts in 2025

The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2025 season – one featuring three world premieres and several esteemed international guest artists.

In a special event on 15 November, internationally-acclaimed American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato makes one of two Australian appearances to perform Berlioz’s Les Nuits D’été in a gala concert also featuring Strauss’s Die Fledermaus Overture and Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony.

This year’s Federation Concert Hall Series comprises 12 programs, with all made available via digital livestream on the TSO’s own digital platform.

Kicking off TSO’s mainstage season, Canadian violinist James Ehnes will perform Brahms’ Violin Concerto, paired with Sibelius’s First Symphony.

TSO’s own Concertmaster Emma McGrath steps up to bat in Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending on 2 May, in a program that also comprises Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony and the works of Australian composers Peter Sculthorpe and Paul Stanhope; the latter drawing directly on Vaughan Williams’ work.
