The 2025 King’s Birthday Honours have again spot-lit the music and performing arts scene, recognising individuals whose contributions have enriched Australia’s cultural tapestry.

Among those elevated to Companion of the Order of Australia are director Baz Luhrmann and designer Catherine Martin. Luhrmann is recognised for his service to the performing arts as a director, writer and producer; Martin is honoured for her eminent service to the arts, to costume, production design, and for her fostering of emerging talent.

Phillip Adams, the broadcaster, author, filmmaker and commentator, has also been appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia for his contributions across media, arts and community service, as has Jim Sharman, the director whose productions – including Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Rocky Horror Show – did much to shape Australia’s theatrical landscape from the 1970s onwards.
