Woven with exquisite care and respect, Maryam Touzani’s Arabic language drama depicts a love triangle of a middle-aged couple and a young man who works in their small tailoring business in a Moroccan town.

A caftan-maker like his father, Halim (Saleh Bakri) is a maalem, a master of his trade, and his wife Mina (Lubna Azabal) a canny saleswoman. But these days, with traditional dress falling out of favour and with those who can afford it less respectful of the effort that goes into making it, business isn’t exactly booming.

Still, it’s just brisk enough for the couple to take on an apprentice tailor, Youssef (Ayoub Missioui), a skilled worker willing to learn more. His presence soon becomes essential to the business and even more to Halim, a closeted gay man who frequents a local bathhouse for anonymous sex. A risky thing to do in a country and culture where homosexuality is regarded as a civil and moral crime.
