Tone List: Audible Edge ’26 — A festival of exploratory music (Saturday)

2 May @ 8:30 am - 6:30 pm AWST

Artist-led, international and delightfully unpredictable, this annual festival of exploratory music is housed in Fremantle’s Victoria Hall, creating a space for virtuosic and “anti-virtuosic” improvisation, forward-thinking club sets and participatory play. Seed-funded artists include composer Simon Charles and poet John Kinsella, experimental electronic music producers Lia T and R. Glacken, place-based sound artist amby downs and flautist Saskia Willinge, alongside trumpeter Uma Volkmer and saxophonist Naoko Uemoto.

Limelight Editor’s Choice

Early birds join Ryan Borrett & Eduardo Cossio in Booyembarra Park for a morning soundwalk – stroll, listen, reflect & chat.

Come by the space at 10 for Teeter Bakery pastries, Pound Coffee & some participatory sessions in the morning: join us out in the courtyard with your instrument for a play, or pop into Fremantle Small Projects to combine movement and sound with Make-Shift. Our friends at Suku, around the corner, will give you a discount for lunch. After lunch are four performances: in Fremantle Small Projects, the Make-Shift participants share what they worked on in the morning. Local flautist
Saskia Willinge works with trumpet player Uma Volkmer and sound designer Naoko Uemoto in a work incorporating sculptural scores, field recordings & air-blown instruments in a delicate render- ing of the ecology of Lake Jualbup. Maria Moles & Jameson Feakes, friends since Tone List’s early days, play a cross-continental improvised duo which is likely to be lush and free-flowing (but who knows, it’s improvised)
