16 May @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm ACST

Event Series (See All)

In a theatrical coup, Neil Armfield heads to Adelaide to direct Rossini’s comedy in which a resourceful young woman outwits her mean-spirited family to win the heart of a prince, without the aid of magic. The production, which promises a retro 1970s twist, stars Anna Dowsley as Angelina (Cinderella) and Jihoon Son as Don Ramiro (Prince Charming). Teddy Tahu Rhodes plays her puffed-up father Don Magnifico, Helena Dix and Indyana Schneider portray her ugly (of heart) sisters, Nicholas Lester is Dandini and Pelham Andrews the kindly philosopher Alidoro. Stuart Stratford conducts the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

Limelight Editor’s Choice

Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Cinderella) is a sparkling operatic retelling of the beloved fairy tale – full of wit, warmth and dazzling vocal fireworks. Directed by acclaimed Australian film and theatre director Neil Armfield and designed by Stephen Curtis, this opera places the classic Cinderella story in a retro 1970s world.

Angelina – our Cinderella – lives under the thumb of her vain stepsisters and pompous father, Don Magnifico. But through kindness, intelligence and quiet resilience, she captures the heart of Prince Ramiro – not through enchantment, but through strength of character.

Starring Anna Dowsley, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Helena Dix, Nicholas Lester, Pelham Andrews and many more, this world-premiere production from State Opera South Australia promises a joyful night of music, comedy and unforgettable voices.
