Festival of Voices: Held in Song

11 July @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am AEST

The Tasmanian celebration of all things vocal returns with a host of performers from Australia and overseas. Traditional and contemporary works rub shoulders with cabaret and educational workshops, while headline acts include Hobart-based vocal ensemble JESSA performing contemporary classical repertoire at the Port Arthur Asylum, and vocal works setting words by Australian writers performed by AVÉ alongside polyphony by Bach and Victoria. This year’s Classical Choral Workshop concentrates on Handel, culminating in a concert featuring his Dixit Dominus, performed by the 120 singers of the Festival’s Classical Choral Workshop, and Zadok the Priest, performed by the Come Sing Handel Choir.

Limelight Editor’s Choice

Immerse yourself in the gentle art of singing and sharing beautiful age-old lullabies from around the globe, from Cairo to Cape Barren Island. Together, you will learn traditional songs and stories to treasure and pass on to your children, grandchildren, and other little ones.

Lullabies are among humanity’s earliest musical traditions; a powerful and intimate way of connecting with, regulating and nurturing babies and children through the human voice. Sung softly and repetitively, lullabies help foster neural pathways, link language and memory, and support emotional growth during early development.
