Smith’s Alternative: Lysistrata – A Monologue
13 August @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm AEST

Drawing on Aristophanes’ timeless comedy, Lysistrata: A Monologue reimagines one of theatre’s great heroines as a single, compelling voice. This contemporary adaptation explores the invisible labour of women, the cost of conflict, and the enduring question of who truly holds power.
Written, directed and performed by Dee-Ann Darkwood, this original adaptation combines classical theatre with contemporary storytelling, inviting audiences to rediscover an ancient play whose questions remain strikingly relevant today.
Dee is a Canberra and Helsinki based playwright, performer, academic and multidisciplinary artist whose creative practice spans theatre, burlesque, production, photography and Tarot. She is also the former leader of Helsinki Attic Theatre. Her work explores mythology, identity, symbolism and the stories that continue to shape our lives, bringing together scholarship with imaginative performance.
