Sydney Theatre Company: Prima Facie
14 June @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm AEST

Suzie Miller’s play Prima Facie had its world premiere at Sydney’s Griffin Theatre Company in 2019. Directed by Lee Lewis, the riveting production starred Sheridan Harbridge (read our feature on page 30). Since then, the one-woman play has been produced in nearly 50 countries and published as a novel. Jodie Comer performed in an award-winning production in London’s West End and on Broadway, while Cynthia Erivo stars in a forthcoming film. Miller draws on her skill as a former lawyer to shape the powerful story. Tessa is a criminal lawyer at the top of her game, known for representing men accused of sexual assault. But when she finds herself on the other side of the bar, everything she knew about the law comes into question. The original Australian production now returns, with Harbridge reprising the role of Tessa. Not to be missed.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
Tessa is a confident criminal defence barrister who thrives in the courtroom. She believes in the rules, in the discipline of evidence, and in the idea that the law can deliver justice if you know how to work it. That certainty fractures when an unexpected event forces her onto the other side of the witness box, and the system she once trusted becomes a process she must endure.
As Tessa navigates the processes she once championed, she confronts the law’s power and its blind spots firsthand. The courtroom shifts from a place of control to a place of exposure, where truth is negotiated through procedure and persuasion, and lived experience struggles to fit the language of proof.
Presented by Griffin Theatre Company and Andrew Henry Presents, this landmark production reunites Harbridge and Lewis for strictly limited 3-week season in Sydney.
