Following the success of TOSC’s first Opera Queens concert, Return of the Queens: Kings Arise expands the royal canvas to encompass queens, kings, princes and usurpers drawn from history, legend and opera.

Catherine of Aragon, Mary Stuart, Peter the Great, Macbeth and the Prince from Rusalka are among the characters brought to life in music by Chabrier, Donizetti, Gounod, Handel, Lortzing, Purcell, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rossini and Verdi.

Directed from the piano by Simon Kenway, the concert features returning artists Louise Keast, soprano, and Michael Lampard, bass-baritone, together with Laura Scandizzo, soprano, Jill Sullivan, mezzo-soprano, and TOSC’s ensemble of established and emerging singers.

Royal ambition, intrigue, love and betrayal unfold through celebrated arias and ensembles alongside less frequently heard operatic treasures. Following the performance, audience members are warmly invited to meet and mingle with the artists in the courtyard.
