Australian National Academy of Music: Schubert Octet
25 March @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm AEDT

Franz Schubert composed his Octet as a commission from Ferdinand Troyer for whom the clarinet part was written for. One hour, six movements, and eight musicians, the Octet is Schubert’s largest chamber composition. Having undertaken this significant work in 2025, ANAM musicians are proud to present the complete work in a standalone concert.
Symbolically, Schubert considered the Octet as a stepping stone in the preparation of what he called a “grand symphony”, which became his renowned 9th Symphony. Paying homage to this sentiment, the Octet also serves as a starting point for the 2026 ANAM Season, and in November, to conclude a year of fantastic music-making, the ANAM Orchestra will perform The Great, under the baton of Giordano Bellincampi at the St Kilda Town Hall.
