Australian Musical Theatre Festival: Seeing Is Beleaving

21 May @ 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm AEST

Boasting more than 40 events over five days, the Australian Musical Theatre Festival returns to Launceston. Carmel Dean’s Well Behaved Women, which shines a light on some of history’s trailblazing women, launches the festival, while the Opening Night Gala features a cast led by Jarrod Draper. The centrepiece is a production of The Frogs by Stephen Sondheim, Burt Shevelove and Nathan Lane. In another highlight, Delia Hannah reflects on her life in Seeing Is Believing, in which she is joined by the festival’s Artistic Director Tyran Parke. Following a sold-out performance last year, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra returns for the concert Broadway Showstoppers with singers Draper, Hannah, Lisa Crosato, Nadine Garner, Rob Mallett and Lorinda May Merrypor.

Limelight Editor’s Choice

From Cats to Evita, Mary Poppins to Les Misérables, Mamma Mia! to Aspects of Love, Delia Hannah has long been one of Australia’s most luminous musical theatre stars.

In this intimate and deeply personal evening, she reflects on her remarkable life in song and story – joined on stage by Australian Musical Theatre Festival Artistic Director Tyran Parke.

A story in itself, Tyran and Delia’s connection began when a young Tyran – just 11 years old – sent fan mail to Delia after seeing her as Fantine in the original Australian production of Les Misérables.

A tribute to the letters that spanned decades and saw Delia and Tyran transition from pen pals to artistic collaborators, Seeing is Believing celebrates a woman whose talent shaped a generation, and the profound ripple effect of inspiration between artist and audience.
