Port Fairy Spring Music Festival: To Be Human
10 October @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm AEDT

Constellation of creativity
Still ablaze from its Coriole Music Festival premiere in May, Belinda Gehlert’s shimmering quartet Stellar traces the life-cycle of a star as a mirror for the phases of human existence. To Be Human, a seven-part song-cycle for tenor, electric guitar and strings, asks some essential 21st-century questions — why does art hold a reverence for humans? And what happens if we outsource its creation?
When experiencing art, we assume human experience is at the core of its creation. AI-generated artwork leaves us questioning whether it is as satisfying or interesting to us as experiencing a human-produced artwork. To Be Human examines what we miss: the hidden journey of the artist’s creative process.
