Welcome to the Australian Art Music playlist! A monthly playlist of classical, jazz, experimental and electronic music focused on contemporary Australian composers, musicians and sound artists.

Two years ago, for February 2023’s playlist, I featured the piano with a range of primarily solo piano works. This month, after World Piano Day on March 29, I wanted to run this theme back but with more of a focus on piano in ensemble. But don’t fret, there’s still some incredible solo piano music that has come out in the past 2 years I couldn’t resist – but expect a bit of a mix.

We have pianists in featured roles and supporting roles throughout this collection of tracks, whether soloist, ensemble member or accompanist – and range of different styles from electronic, ambient, jazz-inspired, traditional and experimental.

Many of these pianists also have incredible back catalogues, so definitely jump down the rabbit hole and start exploring their other work and collaborations.
