Welcome to the Australian Art Music playlist! A monthly playlist of classical, jazz, experimental and electronic music focused on contemporary Australian composers, musicians and sound artists.

This month’s playlist heavily features string instruments (or string-containing instruments, sorry piano), and thus all these excellent tracks are literally tied together by strings. But many of these pieces also feature strong connections to people and how they interact. The ties that bind us.
Perhaps unsurprisingly for the subject matter, solo works and duos feature heavily this month, but a requiem movement with full choir and a guitar orchestra piece defeinitly buck the trend.
This playlist has been an excellent chance to feature some brand-new recordings, but also to go foraging for older recordings I haven’t featured yet and deserve some time in the limelight. It’s a good reminder that the present and future of Australian art music is so exciting, but so too is its history.
