When Anthony LaPaglia steps on stage to play the unravelling, travelling salesman Willy Loman in Melbourne, it will mark his Australian theatre debut.

Surprising though that is for such a well-known Australian performer, LaPaglia points out that he began his career in the theatre. Born in Adelaide, he headed to the US to study acting after being knocked back by NIDA, and subsequently performed in a number of plays in New York.

In 1997–98, he played Eddie Carbone in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge on Broadway, winning rave reviews and a Tony Award.

Since then, his major credits have been on screen. He won an Emmy Award for his role as Simon Moon in the television sitcom Frasier, and a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of Jack Malone in the drama series Without a Trace. His many films include Balibo, Lantana, Holding the Man, Brilliant Lies and The House of Mirth, and he will soon be seen in the television adaptation of Trent Dalton’s best-selling novel Boy Swallows Universe for Netflix.
