For those unfamiliar with the HKSO and its place in Hong Kong’s music ecosystem, how would you describe it?
The Hong Kong String Orchestra (HKSO) is a collective of most talented string young musicians from Hong Kong. It serves as a music ambassador for Hong Kong, presenting professional music while promoting both Chinese and Western cultures and we share this blend of cultures with the world through our performances.
We also blend professional string music with educational initiatives, nurturing young talent – a commitment to artistic excellence and community engagement sets us apart.
What is the state of play in Hong Kong regarding classical/orchestral music at the moment? Have there been challenges in the post-COVID era for HKSO?
Audience engagement has shifted, necessitating innovative programming and HKSO is adapting by exploring new formats and outreach strategies. Our upcoming Australia Tour is part of our strategy to reinvigorate our presence and share our music with a broader audience.
