Lengthy lockdowns and a sudden expansion of time in front of computer screens during the COVID pandemic led to a lot of internet scrolling. Most of it, let’s be honest, was not terribly productive.

But guitarists Josh Meader and Antoine Boyer can hold their heads up with some pride. Though living half a world apart – Meader in Australia and Boyer in France – the pair managed to do something not just productive with their pandemic downtime but long-lasting.

“I can’t actually remember who reached out to whom,” Meader tells Limelight. “I think he started following me, then I followed him… either way, we started messaging each other.”

What began as a texting bromance quickly developed into something more substantial: a series of video duets in which the two musicians brought their distinctive but equally virtuosic guitar styles – with Boyer on acoustic and Meader on electric – to bear on songs such as Johnny Mercer’s Skylark and Chick Corea’s Spain.

It didn’t take long for their fleet-fingered playing to generate a lot of attention.
