The Sydney Theatre Company’s production of The Picture of Dorian Gray has been recognised with six Tony Award nominations, making it the most nominated solo show in Tony history.

Sarah Snook – who is best known for playing Shiv Roy in HBO’s television drama Succession – is up for Best Performance in a Leading Role in a Play, while Kip Williams, who adapted Oscar Wilde’s novel for the stage, is nominated for Best Direction of a Play. The other nominations in the Play category include Marg Horwell and David Bergman for Best Scenic Design, Horwell for Best Costume Design, Nick Schlieper for Best Lighting Design and Clemence Williams for Best Sound Design.
Williams’ daring interpretation of Wilde’s tale of beauty, obsession and corruption had its world premiere in Sydney in 2020, starring Eryn Jean Norvill. The production, which extended twice then toured, scored a five-star review from Limelight and won four Sydney Theatre Awards, including Best Mainstage Production and Best Performance in a Leading Role.
