Teddy Tahu Rhodes was well aware of the Old Fitzroy Hotel in Sydney’s Woolloomooloo, having walked past it on numerous occasions. But the fact that it housed a theatre was news to him.

“When I first came to Sydney, I actually lived in the area for many years, so it was my stomping ground,” says the New Zealand-born, Australian-based, internationally renowned bass-baritone. “But I had no idea that the Old Fitz Theatre was underneath, to be honest.”

Rhodes is about to become intimately acquainted with the tiny, 58-seat, basement venue, which is the home of Red Line Productions. He and his regular collaborator, conductor and pianist Guy Noble, have agreed to give six performances there to raise funds for the ongoing running of the Old Fitz Theatre.

Andrew Henry, the Creative Director of Red Line Productions, reached out to Rhodes and Noble to see if they would lend their support, and took Rhodes to see the venue.
