It’s not every day that you have a theatre named after you, certainly not while you’re still alive. So, Nancye Hayes was completely taken aback when David Campbell rang her in 2013 to say that a consortium of producers and independent companies specialising in musical theatre was taking over the former home of Darlinghurst Theatre Company in Sydney’s Potts Point later that year and wanted to rename it the Hayes Theatre Co.
