At a ceremony at its headquarters in Ultimo today, APRA AMCOS announced the winners of the 2023 Professional Development Awards (PDAs). Each emerging artist received a $10,000 cash prize to assist in pursuing professional opportunities and funding future development of their careers.

The winner of the Classical/Experimental PDA was Andrea Guterres. A composer and classical guitarist who works in the field of electroacoustic music, her work has been performed at a range of domestic and international festivals including Melbourne’s Tilde New Music Festival and the Dutch Gaudeamus Muziekweek. In 2022, she received the Hildegard Commission from the New York-based arts organisation National Sawdust.

Pianist and composer Sophie Min received the Jazz Award. She has been in the Jazz Bell Awards, Freedman Jazz Fellowship and the ABC’s Jazz Emerging Talents of the Year. Accepting the award in a video, she said that the grant will allow her to attend workshops in Brooklyn and private lessons to help her hone her compositional talents.
