Sixteen Australian composers have been selected for financial support in the creation of new works under the 2024 ABC Composer Commissioning Fund.

Presented by ABC Classic and ABC Jazz, the Fund aims to support emerging artists and foster diversity within new Australian music.

Spotlighting emerging and diverse musical voices, the 2024 Fund supports 10 classical musicians (the youngest of whom is 16) in the creation of new large-form works, and six jazz musicians in the development of a new album.

Each composer will receive up to $6,000 to develop their project, alongside the recording, digital release and airplay of their works by the ABC.

Ciaran Frame enlists two collaborators for a new song cycle: Alon Ilsar, developer of the innovative AirSticks, and Melinda Smith, a multifaceted artist and poet, who lives with Cerebral Palsy. Using her poetry, Conduits will use a “wearable Digital Musical Instrument” to assist in Melinda’s performance of the work.
