The Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers’ House Trust has announced the two recipients of its 2024 Prelude residencies.

Melbourne-based composer, percussionist and sound artist Matthias Schack-Arnott will spend 12 months in Glanville-Hick’s Paddington terrace in Sydney, while Perth-based composer Suzanne Kosowitz will spend her year at the historic Gallop House in Dalkeith, Western Australia.

“I’m grateful for the precious gift of time and space at the Peggy Glanville-Hicks house in 2024, and am incredibly honoured to join the lineage of Australian musicians who have lived there over the past 30 years,” said Schack-Arnott.

A classically-trained percussionist and five-time Art Music Award winner, Schack-Arnott is known for large-scale work which bring elements of sculpture and spatiality to musical performance. Alongside French pianist Cédric Tiberghien on prepared piano, Schack-Arnott premiered The Cage Project for Musica Viva Australia at Perth Festival in March – a work for which he created a eight-by-six metre kinetic and percussive sculpture.
