Limelight has learned of the death of former lawyer, ABC journalist and impresario Andrew McKinnon, aged 70.

A statement from his company, Andrew McKinnon Presentations, read: “Andrew dedicated his life to the arts; his enthusiasm and love for music and theatre is celebrated by all who knew him.”

“Andrew’s commitment to the development of the arts in Australia and his generosity to young performers will always be remembered.”

For more than 35 years, McKinnon produced and presented performances and tours by many of world’s greatest singers, actors and musicians in a wide range of performance settings in Australia and New Zealand. He also took productions to Canada and the United States.

Among the highlights of his production career were: Dickens’ Women, starring Miriam Margolyes; a fully imported American production of the Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess; the French mime artist Marcel Marceau; a concert tribute to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at Sydney Opera House, and tours by Larry Adler, the Vienna Boys’ Choir, pianists David Helfgott, Piers Lane, Jayson Gillham, Alexander Gavrylyuk, Guy Noble and opera stars including Victoria de los Ángeles, Nicolai Gedda,...
