Content behemoth Apple Music has announced the launch of a dedicated classical music service, Apple Music Classical. 

The launch comes nearly two years after Apple bought out the Netherlands-based classical music streaming service Primephonic.

Apple Music Classical is an app designed specifically for listening to classical music, including a catalog of over 5 million tracks from medieval to contemporary music in the highest audio quality. In addition, thousands of recordings will be available in immersive spatial audio.

The app allows subscribers to explore the world’s largest classical music catalog via a search tool. Listeners can search for specific recordings, composers, conductors and even catalog numbers. Thousands of editorial notes including composer biographies, descriptions of key works and more are provided.

“Apple Music Classical also makes it easy for beginners to get acquainted with the genre thanks to hundreds of Essentials playlists, insightful composer biographies, deep-dive guides for many key works, and intuitive browsing features,” said Apple.
