Apple has expanded the reach of a tool that allows users to migrate their Spotify playlists directly into Apple Music. The move comes in the wake of mounting criticism of Spotify CEO Daniel Ek and his investments in German defence tech company Helsing, which specialises in AI integration into weaponry including drones.

The new functionality allows users to transfer saved songs and playlists from competing streaming services to their Apple Music accounts, subject to its availability. The feature is available to iPhone and iPad users as well as Andriod users of the Apple Music app, though only user-generated playlists may be transferred.

The tool has been available in Australia and New Zealand since May 2025 and has now been extended to users in Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Mexico, the UK and the US.

Announcing its exodus from the platform last week, Canadian post-rock outfit Godspeed You! Black Emperor is the latest in a string of artists including David Bridie, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu to remove their discography from Spotify following Ek’s investment in Helsing.
