Veteran broadcasters, leading writers, musicians and arts philanthropists are among the cultural figures recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours, which celebrate 949 Australians for service across the community, public life, the arts and academia.
Among the highest-profile arts recipients is acclaimed novelist Gerald Murnane, who was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to literature. Broadcaster and journalist Fran Kelly also received an AO, recognised for her contribution to broadcast journalism, social justice and advocacy.

The honours list also recognised several well-known figures from Australian media and entertainment with appointments as Members of the Order of Australia (AM). Television presenter and comedian Rove McManus was honoured for significant service to broadcast media, entertainment and the community. The ABC broadcaster, musician and author James Valentine received a posthumous AM, acknowledging a career that spanned more than two decades in radio and the arts.
In music, concert pianist Simon Tedeschi was awarded an AM for significant service to the performing arts. A former child prodigy, Tedeschi has built an international career as a recitalist, chamber musician and writer, performing at major venues around the world while also contributing to Australia’s literary and cultural life.
