The Australian Conducting Academy has announced the five participants to enter its two-year program in 2023. The initiative is led by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra with support from Australia’s six state orchestras. Emerging conductors Ingrid Martin, Sam Weller, Carlo Antonioli, Nathaniel Griffiths and Leonard Weiss are this year’s participants in the program, selected from a pool of over 80 applicants.

The program is directed by the current Principal Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Johannes Fritzsch, who notes an outstanding strength in the vision and skill of the chosen participants.

“It was an absolute privilege to audition such a high quality group of candidates, and I am thrilled to oversee the development of these exceptional artists over the next two years,” he says of the selection.

Martin is the artistic director and conductor of the Crosswinds Ensemble, Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra and Bayside Chamber Orchestra. This year, she was awarded the Carlos Miguel Prieto Conducting Fellowship, one of ten international conductors who will work with composers such as Marin Alsop, Leonard Slatkin and Simone Young.
