Sheridan Adams will soon be green – and not from envy. The young graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts is to play the green-skinned Elphaba in the latest Australian production of Wicked, having initially auditioned for an ensemble role.

She will star alongside Courtney Monsma as Glinda when the show opens in the Emerald City in August. John Frost made the announcement today for Crossroads Live.

Twenty years since Stephen Schwartz’s musical premiered on Broadway in 2003, Wicked remains one of the most popular musicals in the world, with a particularly strong following among young women.

For the uninitiated, Wicked is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz. Based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, it tells the story of how two unlikely friends – Elphaba and Galinda – became the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch Glinda.
