This Friday, 21 June, is Make Music Day.

Established in France in 1982 as Fête De La Musique, the event is now an international celebration of music and community that takes place in over 120 different countries. No matter your skill level, the day invites musicians and music-lovers of all ages and kinds to band together in performance.

Last year’s Make Music Day amassed over 150 events across Australia.

So whether you want to take part in the celebrations or enjoy it from the sideline, here’s Limelight‘s selection of the music-making events near you.


NSW

In Sydney‘s north, the Challis Singers offer an early celebration on 20 June in the Gordon Library. On the Make Music Day itself, Sing Australia Gordon invites guests to join the community choir in a performance at the Gordon East Public School Hall. On the south side, the Jazzscape Trio will take the Woollahra and Paddington libraries by storm with a set of standards infused with improvisation. Throughout Canada Bay, a slew of local buskers are set to take to the town centre as well.
