Cate Blanchett‘s journey toward another Oscar statuette – this time for her lead role in Todd Field’s TÁR – has been further smoothed with a Best Actress win at the BAFTAs, held in London overnight.

The ceremony was dominated by another film, however – the German-language, Netflix-produced All Quiet on the Western Front, which took away seven awards including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film not in the English Language, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Director and Best Original Score for composer Volker Bertelmann, AKA Hauschka.

Blanchett already has a Golden Globe on the mantlepiece for her performance as disgraced orchestra conductor Lydia Tár. She is considered to be among the frontrunners for an Academy Award.

The black-comic drama The Banshees of Inisherin was awarded Outstanding British Film. It also collected the Best Original Screenplay Award for its writer-director Martin McDonagh.

Austin Butler was awarded Best Actor for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic. Catherine Martin took home a BAFTA for Best Costume Design for Elvis.
