The Russian violinist is the latest to join a growing list of new additions to the German record label’s artist pool.

Simonyan’s debut Deutsche Grammophon recording, coupling the violin concertos of Khachaturian and Barber, will be released internationally in 2012. Accompanying Simonyan on the disc will be the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kristjan Järvi.

Born in 1986 in Novosibirsk, Russia, Mikhail Simonyan made both his New York debut at the Lincoln Center and his St. Petersburg debut at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1999. The following year, he received the Virtuoso of the Year award in St. Petersburg. In 2005, after studying with Victor Danchenko in Philadelphia, Simonyan was invited to the Kremlin by President Putin in acknowledgment of his status as one of Russia’s most promising young musicians. In 2008, he received the Young Artist Award from the Classical Recording Foundation in New York.
