The Continuo Community has announced composer Dominic Flynn as its 2025 Continuo Commission composer.
Flynn will compose a new work, Pickett, one that “reflects on reconciliation, belonging and the role of classical music in post-colonial Australia”.
It will be developed with and premiered by Ensemble Mania, a new music chamber collective based in Melbourne and Tasmania dedicated to living Australian music.

“Through this opportunity from the Continuo Commissioning Circle, I hope to reflect on a few key things: firstly, the political implications within my own artistic practice as a classical music composer in colonised Australia,” Flynn wrote in his proposal.
“Secondly, the plethora of thoughts, feelings, questions, and answers that have arisen from the news of my Indigenous heritage; and finally, on my father’s recent passing following a two-year battle with cancer.”
Pickett will be premiered in late 2026.
