Continuo has announced Melody Eötvös as its 2023 Continuo Composer.

Based in Melbourne, Continuo Community was founded in 2021 as a one-stop platform for information on chamber music in Victoria.

A secondary objective was to commission new chamber works from Victorian composers, to be written for a Victorian ensemble with funds for each commission raised by a “Commissioning Circle” of 10 members, each donating the same amount.

In 2022, Continuo awarded its first commission to Geelong-based composer Kym Dillon, who is creating a work for prog-Baroque group Croissants and Whiskey. This new work is due to be premiered in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Said Director of Commissioning Justin Beere: “We were delighted to receive almost three times as many applications from composers in 2023, and the standard was very high, making life very hard for our Selection Panel. They felt that all the proposed projects deserved to come to fruition, but after careful deliberation, they selected Melody Eötvös.”

Eötvös will write a work for the Quercus Trio: Elizabeth Sellars (violin), Carla Blackwood (French horn) and Rhodri Clark (piano). Its theme will be inspired...
