Musica Viva Australia has announced its selection of ensembles to compete in the 2023 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition (MICMC), which will be held live in Melbourne, 3–9 July. Chosen from over 60 applicants, the 14 international and Australian ensembles will be vying for the $30,000 Monash University Grand Prize amongst a prize pool valued at over $150,000. Two rounds, a semi-final, and a grand final held at the Melbourne Recital Centre will determine the winner of the internationally-acclaimed competition.

“We are very excited to be bringing a Melbourne icon back to town next July – MICMC 2023! Fourteen of the world’s finest young string quartets and piano trios from all around the globe have been selected from a record number of entries to compete live in Melbourne for generous cash prizes and career-building international kudos,” said Wilma Smith, Musica Viva Australia’s Artistic Director of Competitions.
