Ahead of it full 2023 program launch, Melbourne International Jazz Festival (MIJF) has dropped a teaser line-up of four acclaimed international artists, collaborations and collectives scheduled to take part in the annual 10-day, city-wide celebration of jazz.

The multi-Grammy award-winning American singer Cécile McLorin Salvant, described by Spin as “her generation’s most imaginative and thrilling jazz interpreter”, will close out the festival with a Hamer Hall performance.

The American jazz supergroup SFJAZZ Collective – which includes saxophonists Chris Potter and David Sanchez, Mike Rodriguez (trumpet), Warren Wolf (vibraphone), pianist Edward Simon, bassist Matt Brewer and drummer Kendrick Scott – will commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the high-performance group of improvisors with a concert at Melbourne Recital Centre.

Celebrated South African composer, producer and Blue Note pianist Nduduzo Makhathini, will collaborate for the first time with Kalkadungu composer and didgeridoo virtuoso William Barton in a specially commissioned MIJF performance, and the UK-based self-described ‘cinematic break-beat trio’ GoGo Penguin will give Australian fans their first in-person taste of its high-energy live experience.
