Opera Australia has revealed its 2025 season. The launch comes just weeks after the company announced it had parted ways with the season’s chief architect, Artistic Director Jo Davies.
But OA’s mission – “to engage and delight” – remains unchanged, says Opera Australia’s Head of Music Tahu Matheson, who worked with Davies during her tenure. To that end, OA has programmed a mix of what Matheson describes as “the obvious, the known and unknown … productions sustained by the abjectly flawed human journey: the passage into the acutely, deeply moving.”

Opera Australia’s 2025 Sydney season builds on its commitment to showcase Australian talent and broaden its repertoire, with five Sydney premieres to be presented at the Sydney Opera House, beginning with Massenet’s Cendrillon (Cinderella), which opens with a New Year’s Eve performance and continues until 28 March.
