Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2026

Palace Opera & Ballet has announced its latest cinema season with 12 operas and nine ballets on offer. In a strong showing, it includes a raft of intriguing new productions and plenty of premieres brought to life by the world’s leading singers, conductors, directors and dancers.

Top of anyone’s must-see list ought to be the third instalment of Barrie Kosky’s intensely theatrical and visually striking Royal Opera House Ring Cycle. Following on from 2023’s Das Rheingold and this year’s Die Walküre, it will be fascinating to see what the Australian director does with Siegfried, often thought of as the tetralogy’s light relief. Broadcast in May 2026, it will star the unflagging German tenor Andreas Schager in the title role with Christopher Maltman reprising his powerfully sung portrayal of Wotan...
