Chamber music series Selby & Friends has announced its 2020 season, with five tours that will see Artistic Director and pianist Kathryn Selby joined by friends old and new.
While those hoping for any music written by Australian composers (or women) will be disappointed, the season showcases a swathe of young Australian musicians who are making a splash at home and abroad.
“Our Selby & Friends 2020 Season showcases a spectacular line-up of beloved, seasoned professionals and introduces five celebrated Australian artists of a new generation making their debut with us in 2020,” said Selby.
Violinist Emily Sun opens the season with a concert of Mozart, Brahms, Stravinsky and Arensky, joined by the Australian Principal Clarinet of the London Philharmonic, Ben Mellefont, Clancy Newman on cello, and, of course, Selby on piano. Regular friend, cellist Umberto Clerici returns in May for a tour of Sibelius, Beethoven, Martucci and Dvořák, alongside Finnish violinist Vesa-Matti Leppänen.
