Marking World Piano Day, the Sydney International Piano Competition has today announced its 2023 competitors. 

Thirty-two pianists will perform in solo recitals and chamber ensembles between 5–22 July, vying for the Ernest Hutcheson First Prize, valued at $50,000, alongside international and domestic performance and recording opportunities. 

Presented once again as live performances open to audiences, preliminary rounds will take place at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with its finals to be hosted in the Sydney Opera House’s Concert Hall in a span of 28 rounds.

The SIPC has also announced distinguished conductor Zubin Mehta as its 2023 Artistic Patron, who praised it as a international event of great importance for its “springboard opportunities for some of the world’s greatest pianists as they embark on their professional career.”

“I am honoured to support such exceptional work and hope to inspire other lovers of music, and in particular the piano, to add their own support to this unique Australian world event.”
