Sydney Theatre Company has lifted the curtain on its 2026 season, announcing a program of 13 productions that span world premieres, Broadway coups, classic revivals and major star turns.
The season, the first fully programmed by new Artistic Director Mitchell Butel since his appointment in late 2024, blends new Australian stories with international hits and sees some of the nation’s most recognisable actors return to the STC stage.
“We want to make theatre that represents the diversity and multiplicity of who we are as Sydneysiders,” says Butel. “For me, it’s about a diversity of genre, of style and of opinion. I’m not the kind of person who comes in with a whiteboard saying, ‘Here’s what I want to do.’ My process is very collaborative. I love talking to our internal team, our producers and as many artists as possible about what excites them, and what stories feel urgent right now.”
