Marking its 28th year, Western Australian-based chamber choir the Giovanni Consort has announced a 2023 season with three mainstage programs.
Offering a range from mediaeval to contemporary choral music, the ensemble’s season enacts the company’s pledge to the equal programming of female and male composers – one of the only Australian choirs committed to doing so.
“My focus is to change my corner of the world for the better; if enough people do the same, we can create meaningful change,” said Artistic Director Kate McNamara in a recent interview with Limelight.

McNamara took on the AD role in 2021. This year, she notes, the the Consort’s first full season post-pandemic. “We’re exploring a lot of early music this year, and are featuring a number of rarely-heard 16th and 17th century women, as well as our usual championing of contemporary composers.”
