The Opera Foundation for young Australians has announced the winners of its 2023 Awards.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the Opera Foundation for young Australians has awarded more than $6 million in funding for emerging operatic artists over its history. Open to all Australians living anywhere in the world, the Award provides recipients at various ages and career stages with and potentially life-changing performance opportunities, language tutoring and professional coaching.

“Many Australian opera singers are based around the world and are unable to gain access to employment without solid relationship introductions,” says CEO Alison Cole to Limelight. “To sing a German opera in a German house, or an Italian opera in an Italian house is something they can only experience by actually being there and working with many of the world’s greatest.”

“The international experience gives winners a greater sense of their own context and shows them global context. [It’s] inspiring when they immerse themselves in a different culture, as opera speaks many languages – literally.”
