Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2026

The Wagga Weekender Music Festival (WWMF) has revealed its inaugural program, taking internationally acclaimed artists into the Riverina across 17–19 April.

Under the artistic direction of composer Ian Whitney, it’s a program catering to “curious ears” – flush with flavour from classical, improvised, jazz and contemporary music, Australian composition and Iranian, Himalayan and ancient musical traditions.

“It’s a mix designed to intrigue, inspire and mess with your expectations in the best possible way,” wrote Whitney. “Wagga Weekender is rooted in community, driven by curiosity and unapologetically regional. It’s curated with care, packed with edge, and it’s about to shake things up.”

Across the festival, WWMF presents the German-established 1:1 Concert Music series curated by flautist Sally Walker. The experience is avaible to all festival passholders, who will be set up on a ‘blind date’ with a solo performer and surprise repertoire. Hosted in an unconventional performance space (cricket pitches, parks or galleries, in the past) it makes for a highly inimate and personalised concert experience.
