Chair of Windmill Theatre Company, Richard Harris has announced that Clare Watson will be the new Artistic Director of the Adelaide-based company that makes original work for young people.

Watson is an award-winning director who has held senior artistic positions across the country. Most recently, she was the Artistic Director of Perth’s Black Swan State Theatre Company. During her five years in the role, Watson transformed the institution and toured works nationally and internationally. She was been instrumental in welcoming the voices of First Nations artists, artists living with disability, gender diverse and CALD artists to the Black Swan stage.

During her Artistic Directorship of Black Swan, Watson led several co-presentations, including Tim Winton’s Cloud StreetYou Know We Belong Together, Our Town, The Cherry Orchard and a co-production with the Sydney Theatre Company of The Torrents at the Sydney Opera House. She also directed nine works on stage and commissioned nine new theatre works.
