It’s impossible to imagine any Australian other than Marcia Hines at its centre as The Diva – she is the legendary queen of this genre. Therefore it’s no surprise that she devised Velvet with manager Peter Rix and continuing director Craig Ilott. Her star power is the show’s drawcard, and her effortless presence and serene aura captivate audiences.

Hines is complemented by a mix of performers and acts, mood and tempo that have the crowd sounding like they’re on a thrill ride for the duration of the gone-too-fast 75-minute romp.

James Browne’s fabulous set design and costumes are a time machine back to the heady days when New York City’s Studio 54 was “the only place to dance” – its decadence and outrageousness inspiring the proceedings overseen by DJ/music director Joe Accaria.
