This concert is one of more than 60 individual events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Festival of Voices – the final one from its inspirational producer Joan Wright.

New Zealand women’s choir Luminata Voices, founded by its Musical Director Vanessa Kay in 2021, begins proceedings with performances of songs by Aotearoa composers, opening with the festive Haere Mai Nga Iwi (Te Wehi Whanau).

It delivers bright cleanly focused and blended singing in a bracket of attractively contrasted pieces. The obvious dedication and distinctive tone and harmonies of the group is infectious and heartwarming.

Veus – Cor Infantil Amics de la Unió is a wonderful Catalonian youth choir from Barcelona, directed by Josep Vila Jover. Outfitted in white, the choristers bring amazing energy, beautiful tone and tight ensemble to a bracket of numbers highlighted by the gorgeous Under the Willow (Susan LaBarr) and a couple of wonderfully performed Japanese inspired items in O Lux Beatissima (Kentaro Sato) and Kirishitan – Imayo (Hideki Chihara). The ensemble’s stunningly choreographed routines and use of lighting effects is mesmerising.
