Melbourne Symphony Orchestra: Brahms’ First Symphony & Piano Concerto
7 November @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEDT

MSO Chief Conductor Jaime Martín will lead our musicians through Brahms’ Symphony No.1. This work was around two decades in the making because he was so concerned with having to compose under the shadow of Beethoven, the legend who came before him. Brahms’ fears may sound unfounded to us, but his music reflects a deep respect for the history and traditions of classical music, as well as his bravery in forging a new path.
Award-winning pianist Denis Kozhukhin will play Brahms’ compelling Piano Concerto No.1, which the composer himself had premiered back in 1859. The story continues through the second concerto and symphony in our next concert.
