Newcastle Music Festival: Scenes from Childhood | Linda Barcan & Coady Green
14 August @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm AEST

A concert for the true lovers of music – lyric mezzo-soprano Linda Barcan with Coady Green, pianist, will perform Mahler’s song cycle Kindertotenlieder with themes of mortality and the persistence of nature, as well as works by Rosenthal and Fiddes. Coady Green will perform Robert Schumann’s glorious Kinderszenen, a series of 13 movements evoking aspects of childhood. The performance will culminate in a little heard work by the “Grand Old Man of French Music”, friend and last student of Ravel, Manuel Rosenthal, who would have been 102 on June 5 this year, having died in 2003 . He witnessed a whole century of the development of music, and conducted famous orchestras throughout Europe and the US. It’s a great privilege to hear his work for the first time in our festival.
