Il Divo returns to Australia this month for the first time in five years – and a lot has changed since its last visit. The carefully chosen tour title, A New Day, speaks to the classical crossover group’s emergence from a dark, challenging time, emotionally and professionally.

On 8 December, 2021, midway through Il Divo’s For Once In My Life tour, Spanish baritone Carlos Marín was hospitalised in the UK with COVID. He passed away on 19 December.

Shocked by his death, his co-stars – American tenor David Miller, Swiss tenor Urs Bühler and French pop artist Sébastien Izambard – found themselves wondering whether Il Divo had a future.

“The last few years have been so difficult on so many levels,” says Miller, chatting to Limelight from his New York home via Zoom.
